Landscape Materials

Are you a devout do-it-yourselfer? Are you looking to do some hardscaping and are wondering what the pros do and use?

In this blog I’ll go over some materials that I am fond of and highly recommend after numerous years of installing them in many different situations. I’ve broken them down into three basic categories: retaining walls, pavers, and outdoor kitchens/entertainment spaces.

Retaining Walls:

When it comes to building a retaining wall, I am a firm believer that the material you construct it out of is as important as using proper construction technique.  The first thing I would recommend is to NOT use the “DIY superstore” hardscape materials. You indeed get what you pay for.

Rochester Concrete Products™, offers some great materials for your retaining wall needs. Their Rockwood® and Interlock™ product offerings have a lot of great solutions for retaining walls.

I also highly recommend VERSA-LOK® for your SRW needs.  VERSA-LOK® also offers a wide array of retaining wall systems.

Both of these products offer great structural integrity when properly installed and will stand the test of time.

Pavers:

I think in the hardscape world today, paving systems are evolving faster than any other segment. If you look back ten years and compare the product offerings then to what’s available today, I think you would be amazed at how things have changed. I’ll go back to Rochester Concrete Products™.  Rochester Concrete Products™ currently offer a vast variety of paving solutions.  Their Silver Creek Stoneworks® and Interlock™ products have many different systems that are sure to suit your needs.

A few other paving systems that I would recommend are WillowCreek™ , Borgert, and Anchor®. All three of these manufacturers offer a great variety of paving systems, too many to list here, but are all good products in their own right.

Outdoor Kitchens/Entertainment Spaces:

When it comes to creating an outdoor kitchen/entertainment area, there are also a lot of good options.  I’m not sure any system gets better than the Necessories™ product line offered by Rochester Concrete Products™.   The Necessories™ line is a very intuitive offering that can accomplish practically any need you may have in your outdoor space.
